(Mitchell, SD) — One of South Dakota’s most famous icons is being honored with a mural on the Corn Palace in Mitchell. Pine Ridge native Billy Mills visited the city Wednesday for a special ceremony to check out the art work and speak to a crowd that included elementary students from Mount Vernon. The mural shows him breaking the red tape after winning the 10 thousand-meter run in the 1964 Summer Olympics. It’s one of several murals going up on the Corn Palace this year as part of the “Famous South Dakotans” series.
