South Dakota In New IRS Pilot Program For Tax Filing

(Pierre, SD) — It’s tax season, and South Dakotans are getting an opportunity to file theirs for free. The IRS has launched a new pilot program available online for use in a dozen states, including South Dakota. It’s called the Direct File program, and officials say it’s designed to be very simple for taxpayers. However, 10-99 tax filers and anyone with business income to report or itemized deductions won’t be able to use the form. The pilot is expected to be rolled out in phases and will be more widely available in mid-March.
