Surrey School District Adopting Four-Day School Week

(Surrey, ND) — The Surrey Public School District is adopting a 4-day week for students and teachers next year. It’s a growing trend in North Dakota, with 17 schools statewide following this model. The district says the shorter work week makes it easier for them to recruit teachers, but some parents say it makes it tough for those who work Monday through Friday, so the district will provide childcare at the school every Friday. Teachers will also be available one Friday a month for students who need extra help. While the school week will be shorter, the new schedule extends the school day by 45 minutes.
