Update On Deadly Sioux Falls Crash Involving Teens

(Sioux Falls, SD) — There’s an update on the deadly crash in Sioux Falls last month that took the lives of two teens and left five others hurt. It was announced last Friday that 17-year-old Damian Laurelez is now facing multiple charges. Those include first- and second-degree manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and vehicular battery. According to court documents, Laurelez originally told authorities he was only going about 20 miles an hour that morning of April 27th when the crash happened after the group left a house party. But Sioux Falls Police Department Spokesman Sam Clemens now reports that the driver was going more than 70 miles an hour after calculating the speed using surveillance video from neighborhood cameras. Police say Laurelez had drugs and alcohol in his system, and the 17-year-old is being charged as an adult due to the seriousness of the charges.
