South Dakota Post-Election Audits Begin After Primary

(Pierre, SD) — This week’s South Dakota Primary marks the beginning of a new election verification process with statewide post-election audits. These audits are the result of a 2023 bill passed by the State Legislature. According to state law, post-election audits must be conducted within 15 days of the state canvassing of a primary or general election. Ballots from five percent of the precincts in each county will be hand-counted, then compared with results from electronic tabulation equipment.
