(Williams County, ND) — Lightning strikes caused two separate oil and produced water spills in North Dakota during the Fourth of July. The first one happened in northwestern Williams County, where the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division said 500 barrels of produced water spilled during a fire caused by the lightning. Two barrels of oil and 320 barrels of produced water also spilled in northwestern Burke County. Cleanup efforts are underway, and the produced water that was spilled has since been recovered.
