South Dakota Delegates Gearing Up For DNC

(Chicago, IL) — South Dakota delegates are preparing for the Democratic National Convention next month with the full endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. There will be 20 delegates set to represent the state in Chicago. The focus will be on whether the party will formally nominate Harris after President Biden endorsed her to succeed him. Mohamed Mohamed of Sioux Falls is a soon-to-be-junior at the University of South Dakota and the youngest of the state’s delegates at 21 years old. He’s giving Harris his clear support, saying, “We’re seeing the benefits from her candidacy already, and it’s energized Democrats. It’s energized young people like myself.” Shane Merrill, chair of the South Dakota Democratic Party, says it will be the first convention for a lot of the delegates, so they plan to lean on those with the experience heavily. The DNC begins on August 19th.
