(Sioux Falls, SD) — Officials in Sioux Falls are telling residents not to give money to panhandlers. Mayor Paul TenHaken and Police Chief Jon Thum spoke at a news conference on Thursday. TenHaken said 85-percent of the city’s homeless “want help” and “want to (get) out of that cycle.” He said the other 15-percent of the homeless population “want to take advantage of our community.” The mayor added that citizens should be donating to the city’s non-profit organizations that are involved with the homeless instead of giving money to panhandlers.
