(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota has a new commissioner of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. Yesterday, Governor Kristi Noem appointed Joe Fiala to the post. He replaces Chris Schilken who announced in February he was stepping down for a deputy commissioner role. Fiala joined the GOED in 2012 as a business development representative. He becomes the third GOED commissioner since Steve Westra stepped down in May of 2023.
