(Sioux Falls, SD) — There’s been another attack on a correctional officer at the South Dakota State Penitentiary. It allegedly happened in East Hall on Sunday night just before 6 pm. Reports from correctional officers and inmates suggest an inmate assaulted a correctional officer, causing the officer to lose consciousness and receive treatment at a local hospital. The DOC is handling the investigation. Some state employee advocates are now calling for legislators to intervene following several reports of attacks and unrest in recent months.
