Survey Reveals Damage From Steele Tornado

(Steele, ND) — A ground survey has revealed that Wednesday’s tornado near Steele did cause some damage. The tornado derailed 43 train cars as it crossed the BNSF Railway. The train cars were empty, and no hazardous materials were released. BNSF crews cleaned up the scene, and normal railroad operations resumed Thursday afternoon. The tornado also damaged and uprooted trees, and the National Weather Service has rated it an EF1 with winds estimated at around 100 miles-per-hour.
