ACLU Of SD Calls Recent State Voter Removal Illegal

(Pierre, SD) — The ACLU of South Dakota is calling this week’s removal of ‘noncitizens’ from the state’s voter roll illegal. According to the Secretary of State’s Office, nearly 300 people have been taken off. The discovery was part of a review to “ensure the integrity of South Dakota’s elections and safeguard against improper voter registration.” Yesterday, the ACLU claimed the move violates the National Voter Registration Act and could disenfranchise citizens who are legally eligible to vote. The group is asking the state to reinstate those voters.
