(Fort Yates, ND) — A 33-year-old Fort Yates woman is being accused of setting a post office on fire on the Standing Rock Reservation. Melody Walker-White Twin was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday on charges of Arson and Destruction of Government Property.
The indictment alleges that on or about September 15, 2024, Walker-White Twin damaged or attempted to damage the United States Post Office located in Selfridge, North Dakota. Specifically, Walker-White Twin used rocks to break windows out of the Post Office. It also alleges that between September 15 and 16, 2024, Walker-White Twin damaged or attempted to damage the United States Post Office located in Selfridge by means of fire. The Post Office was a total loss with only the vault remaining.
This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Postal Investigative Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
