Biden Commute Peltier’s Sentence

(Washington, DC) — President Biden has commuted the life sentence of Pine Ridge man Leonard Peltier in a series of commutations and pardons before leaving office. Peltier was a Native American rights activist and sentenced for the killing of two FBI agents in South Dakota. He also escaped federal prison back in 1975. Peltier has spent nearly a half century in prison and is now suffering health issues at the age of 80. The commutation of his sentence will allow him to spend his remaining days in home confinement, but it does not mean he is pardoned for his crimes.
