(Pierre, SD) — The verdict is in for the theft trial of Lonna Carroll. Carroll, a former state employee, has been found guilty on two counts of felony grand theft for stealing more than one-point-seven million dollars over a 13-year span from South Dakota’s Department of Social Services. Yesterday, a Hughes County jury deliberated for just over an hour on the third and final day of the trial before the verdict was handed down. A sentencing date has yet to be scheduled, but Carroll currently faces up to 40 years in prison and 80-thousand dollars in fines.
