(Pierre, SD) — Governor Rhoden’s Project Prison Reset task force is hearing from the public for the first time. Members hosted a meeting at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance in Sioux Falls yesterday. Attorney and former legislator Steven Haugaard asked the task force to approach a new facility through the lens of rehabilitation. Members also learned that nearly 51 million dollars has already been spent on land preparation and design of the prison at the previous location in rural Lincoln County. The task force is now going to seek ideas from South Dakotans on other potential locations for a new prison over the next three weeks.
