(Deer Lodge, MT) — Work is underway on an expansion of Montana State Prison. Governor Greg Gianforte and other officials were on hand for a groundbreaking ceremony in Deer Lodge yesterday. The nine-figure project will have three new buildings when complete, which will be used for housing and rehabilitation. The funding mostly came from a bill passed by the legislature, which has approved other legislation to increase the number of beds at MSP. This first expansion will increase capacity by 117.
