(Undated) — South Dakota officials are raising awareness about rabies with pets and wild animals being more active during the warmer months. Although cases have dropped considerably over the past 50 years, infections still happen in the state. Belle Fourche animal control officer Clint Haffner says rabies clinics are helpful in protecting pets. The South Dakota Department of Health continues to track cases. There have been 175 rabies cases over the last ten years among more than 56-hundred animals being tested.
