Rapid Planting Pace Continued Last Week

(FARGO, ND) — The rapid pace of planting for this spring continued last week with corn nearly doubling the previous week’s estimated number according to USDA.

Nationwide, corn planting stands at 40% complete as of Sunday. That’s ahead of last week’s 24% and slightly ahead of the five-year average of 39% planted. Iowa is 49% planted, Illinois at 32%, Minnesota at 44%, Nebraska at 50% planted, South Dakota at 39% planted and North Dakota stands at 17% planted for corn this week. Corn emerged nationwide is at 11%.

Soybeans nationwide are 30% planted nationwide according to the latest estimates. That’s ahead of last week’s 18% and the five-year average of 23% as of Sunday. Iowa is 38% planted, Illinois at 33%, Minnesota at 22%, Nebraska at 34%, South Dakota at 25% and North Dakota is at 10% planted as of Sunday. Soybeans emerged nationwide is at 7%.

Spring wheat is 44% planted this week, ahead of last week’s 30% but slightly behind the five-year average number of 45% for this time of year. South Dakota is 94% planted as of Sunday, North Dakota is at 35% and Minnesota stands at 30% planted as of Sunday. Sugarbeets are 83% planted nationwide with Minnesota at 77% and North Dakota at 74% planted this week.

Winter wheat conditions also ticked higher again this week, up to 51% good to excellent as of Sunday.
