(Helena, MT) — Local governments in Montana are banned from enacting red flag laws. Governor Greg Gianforte signed a bill last week barring cities and counties from putting such laws in place. Red flag laws allow authorities to remove firearms from people deemed to be a threat to themselves or others. The measure passed with no support from Democrats and little opposition from Republicans. Gianforte suggested gun rights are a way of life for Montanans and protecting that belief is not a question.
