(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota health officials are keeping a close eye on the spread of measles across the U.S. State Epidemiologist Joshua Clayton says there have not been any measles cases reported in the state as of yesterday. However, the South Dakota DOH is monitoring the growing cases nationally and what to expect. According to the CDC, there have been around a thousand measles cases in the U.S. so far this year. Clayton adds that the state’s vaccination rates have decreased over the years. Just over 90 percent of South Dakota kindergarteners are vaccinated, just behind the national average of 93 percent.
