(Minneapolis, MN) — The State Attorney General’s office says Derek Chauvin [[ SHO-vin ]] would still serve out his state sentence even if rumors of a federal pardon are true. Attorney General Keith Ellison said President Trump “has no power to pardon Chauvin’s state conviction.” Ellison said Chauvin would be returned to Minnesota and “serve the rest of his sentence in state prison.” He added “The only conceivable purpose would be to express yet more disrespect for George Floyd and more disrespect for the rule of law.” Chauvin received federal and state sentences of more than 20 years after being convicted for the May 25th, 2020 murder of George Floyd.
