(Minneapolis, MN) — State leaders in Minnesota are preparing for the potential pardon of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin for his federal conviction of killing George Floyd. KTSP reports that leaders including Governor Walz, Mayor Jacob Frey, and the state’s National Guard have all been briefed on preparations for unrest if President Trump decides to pardon Chauvin. Walz told reporters this week there wasn’t any indication that it would happen or not, but that with this presidency it “seems like something they would do.” Chauvin is currently serving out his over 20-year sentence in a federal prison in Texas.
