(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota’s 911 Board wants better service coverage in the western part of the state, and they’re willing to pay for it. The board is offering LUMEN Technologies an extra 22-thousand dollars a month to bring back a service tech based in western South Dakota. Right now, the company’s techs are based in Huron and Sioux Falls. The proposal would add 1.1 million over the next four years to LUMEN’s existing 36-million-dollar contract. The board also wants to approve where the tech would be stationed. LUMEN hasn’t agreed to the deal yet. The push comes after last year’s major 911 outage, which was blamed on a light pole installation.
