(Undated) — The College Football Playoff is getting a slight format change for this upcoming season. A straight seeding model will now be used, giving the top four ranked teams in the CFP’s own poll first round byes. Last season, byes were awarded to the top four highest-ranked conference champions. The five highest-ranked conference champions will still be guaranteed spots in the 12-team field. The CFP said they felt the change was in the best interest of the game.
