(Eagle Pass, TX) — Governor Larry Rhoden and Attorney General Marty Jackley are visiting the U.S.-Mexico border this week. It’s part of efforts to form a better strategy in stopping illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Tuesday, Rhoden met with South Dakota National Guard troops stationed in Texas and toured the border by land and airboat. Jackley visited Arizona yesterday, where he emphasized the impact of fentanyl and meth in South Dakota communities. He’s now authorizing state agents to help enforce federal immigration laws, focusing on violent criminals and drug dealers. Rhoden is also asking for permission to let the South Dakota Highway Patrol assist ICE.
