SDSU President Warns of Rising Costs, Fewer Grants Under New Federal Aid Bill

(Brookings, SD) — The president of South Dakota State University is raising red flags about the Big Beautiful Bill, just passed by the U.S. House. SDSU President Barry Dunn says the bill’s overhaul of student aid could drive up costs and cut off access to key programs like work-study and federal loans. He says research funding is already drying up, and federal education cuts could make things worse. The university is slowing spending and asking its foundation for more scholarship help as they brace for fewer federal dollars.
