South Dakota Moves To Add Work Medicaid Requirements

(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota may soon require work or education for some adults on Medicaid. The state’s Department of Social Services plans to ask the federal government for a waiver that would let it add new rules for people in the Medicaid expansion group. That group was created after voters expanded eligibility in 2022. Then in 2024, voters approved letting the state add work or education requirements. Public hearings are set for May 30th in Pierre and June 12th in Sioux Falls. The state says the plan could reduce enrollment and save millions of dollars.
