Cold Air Funnels Spotted Over SD

(Sioux Falls, SD) — Some curious clouds are catching eyes across South Dakota this week, but they aren’t tornadoes. Cold air funnels were spotted Tuesday, including one captured on camera in eastern South Dakota. The small, high-altitude funnels form when chilly air and shifting winds meet, usually during showers or storms near a low-pressure system. They’re weak, often go unnoticed, and rarely cause damage but can look pretty dramatic. More could pop up depending on how the current weather system moves.
