(Sioux Falls, SD) — The race for Sioux Falls mayor is already heating up, even with the election still a year away. State Senator Jamie Smith officially launched his campaign Saturday outside the Washington Pavilion, aiming to succeed Mayor Paul TenHaken. Smith, a former teacher, coach, and 2022 Democratic nominee for governor, says he wants to make Sioux Falls a city where everyone feels seen and heard. He also noted Sioux Falls is at a turning point, and the next mayor will help shape what comes next. So far, Smith and David Zokaites, who ran for Mayor in 2022, are the only official candidates in the race.
