(Rapid City) — For the first time this year, a measles case has been detected in South Dakota. The state Department of Health says it was found in an adult Meade County resident who was traveling internationally. Officials report that the patient visited an urgent care in Rapid City and Monument Health in Sturgis last Wednesday and Thursday. People who are in those areas are being asked to self-monitor for symptoms over the next 21 days. According to health officials, the MMR vaccine is still the best protection against measles.
