Former Centerville Mayor Accused Of Triple Murder Appears in Court

(Sioux Falls, SD) — A former Centerville mayor accused of killing three men is back in court. Jay Ostrem, who’s also a former law enforcement officer, appeared for a status hearing yesterday — more than a year after the deadly shootings. The hearing drew more than 30 people to the McCook County Courthouse, including family members of the victims. Ostrem’s jury trial is tentatively set for March 2026. The judge says they’re still figuring out how and where to select a jury, since the Turner County courthouse where the crime happened is no longer in use. Several more status hearings are lined up in the coming months, with jury prep set to ramp up early next year.
