(Mitchell, SD) — Mitchell’s mayor is pulling his support for a new men’s prison near the city. Mayor Jordan Hanson says the project would do more harm than good, and he’s not alone. The Davison County Sheriff has also come out against it. Hanson says he initially backed the idea for the jobs and growth, but after hearing from hundreds of residents, he’s changed his mind. He believes the community is too divided and says it’s not the kind of growth the community needs. The state’s prison task force meets again on July 8th as it continues to weigh potential sites.
