(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota Supreme Court Justice Janine M. Kern will retire this December after nearly 29 years on the bench. The announcement was made this week. Appointed in 2014, Kern has served the First Supreme Court District and spent 18 years as a circuit court judge before that. Governor Larry Rhoden will select her replacement from nominees. He praised Kern as a role model and saying her presence on the court will be deeply missed.
