(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota’s prison project proposal is getting a delay. Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen says lawmakers need more time to review recommendations for building new prison facilities. The group behind Project Prison Reset is still working on the details and aims to have a full proposal ready in July. Task force member Greg Jamison says the extra time will help everyone understand the plan before it heads to a vote. Governor Larry Rhoden agrees and says he’ll work with legislative leaders to reschedule the special session, originally set for July 22nd. Attorney General Marty Jackley also backs the delay, saying it’s important to get it right, especially with a 500-million-dollar-plus price tag on the table.
