Longtime SFPD Spokesman Sam Clemens Set To Retire After 25 Years

news

(Sioux Falls, SD) — The longtime face of Sioux Falls Police is getting ready to retire. Public Information Officer Sam Clemens is stepping down later this month after 25 years with the department. He started as a patrol officer in 2000 and became the department’s spokesperson in 2008. Clemens says it’s a job he says he never expected but grew to love. Chief Jon Thum calls Clemens the voice of SFPD, and someone who built trust through its daily briefings and clear communication. Taking over the role is Sergeant Aaron Benson, a 20-year veteran who says he’s ready to continue that mission of transparency. The department also plans to expand its briefings to cover broader public safety topics.
