(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota is getting over ten million dollars as part of a major national opioid settlement. Attorney General Marty Jackley says the money comes from a seven-point-four-billion-dollar deal with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family accused of fueling the opioid crisis. The settlement cuts the Sackler’s off from controlling Purdue or selling opioids in the U.S. Jackley says no amount of money can undo the damage, but this helps. South Dakota will receive its share over 15 years, with funds going toward treatment, prevention, and recovery. In total, the state has now secured about 54 million dollars from opioid-related settlements.
