Senator Rounds Pushing To Bring Back Beef Origin Labels

news

(Rapid City, SD) — South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds wants Americans to know where their beef comes from. He’s urging the USDA to bring back country-of-origin labels on beef products, something that hasn’t been required since 2015. In a recent letter to USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, Rounds says federal agencies need to take the lead, not just Congress. The South Dakota Stockgrowers Association has backed the push. Executive Director Doris Lauing says families deserve to know where their meat was born, raised, and processed. She says foreign beef often gets a U.S. label after processing, and that’s misleading to consumers. Rounds believes more transparency is needed, especially as more foreign beef makes its way into American stores.
