South Dakota Leaders Condemn Deadly Minnesota Attack

(Pierre, SD) — More South Dakota lawmakers are reacting to the deadly attack on their neighbors in Minnesota. Over the weekend, police say a man disguised as an officer shot Minnesota Senator John Hoffman and his wife, then killed Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband. The suspect, 57-year-old Vance Boelter, was arrested Sunday and now faces state and federal charges for murder and attempted murder. Legislative leaders in Pierre put out a joint statement, showing support and calling it a senseless act of political violence. South Dakota Senate Minority Leader Liz Larson called it shocking and horrifying. She says violence should never be part of politics. Senator Chris Karr added South Dakota’s legislative culture and civility should be a model. Hoffman and his wife are still recovering in the hospital.
