(Minot, ND) — The Minot City Council won’t hire more firefighters. The council voted to discontinue receiving a federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant. The city hoped to add six more firefighters to the district, but the prospective grant would cover less than half of the cost. Officials canceled the hiring plans after learning the SAFER grant would only cover a portion of the costs rather than all of them. Minot would not have the budget to cover the remaining costs.
