South Dakota Celebrates Juneteenth With Events Across the State

(Undated) — South Dakotans mark Juneteenth today, a holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the U.S. Brookings kicks off its Juneteenth celebration tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pioneer Park, with live music, food vendors, and family-friendly fun. Sioux Falls and Rapid City plan to hold their events Saturday, with a cookout at Fawick Park in Sioux Falls and a full day of speakers, vendors, and performances at Rapid City’s Black Hills Performing Arts Center. All events are free and open to the public. Juneteenth is both a state and federal holiday, meaning government offices and most banks are closed across the state.
