(Pierre, SD) — The heat is cranking up across South Dakota. It’s part of a heat dome bringing extreme heat and humidity to more than 200-million Americans this weekend. South Dakota is one of a few states that could see new temperature records today. For today’s summer solstice, temps are heading into the 90s and even 100s in some spots. The heat index only shows how it feels in the shade, so for those out in the sun, a better tool is the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature. It shows how fast heat can affect the body. Parts of South Dakota will be in the “high” danger zone this weekend, meaning heat illness could hit in just 20 minutes.
