LGBTQ+ Hotline Support Cut From National 988 Crisis Line

(Undated) — Starting July 17th, callers to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline will no longer hear the “Press 3” option for LGBTQ-plus support. The Trevor Project, which had answered more than a million of those calls, is losing funding. Susan Williams with the Transformation Project says the change is deeply disappointing but urges people to keep reaching out for help. The Helpline Center, which answers 988 calls in South Dakota, says trained crisis counselors will still be there 24/7 ready to help anyone in distress. Williams says the LGBTQ-plus community is not alone and promises continued support.
