More Proposals For Project Prison Reset

(Sioux Falls, SD) — Two new possible locations are now on the table for South Dakota’s new men’s prison. The Project Prison Reset task force is considering sites in northeast Sioux Falls and Box Elder, in addition to earlier options like Mitchell, Worthing, and existing state land. In Sioux Falls, Sweetman Partners is offering about 140 acres near where Wholestone Farms once operated a butcher shop. Box Elder’s proposal includes 105 acres of agricultural land off Highway 14-16, which would need zoning approval. The task force is still working with consultants and has asked for a plan that caps the project at 600 million dollars. Governor Rhoden has agreed to delay a special legislative session to give the group more time. Their next meeting is set for July 8th in Sioux Falls.
