(Aberdeen, SD) — West Nile virus is now present in both Aberdeen and Minnehaha County with mosquito numbers on the rise. Health officials say the virus has been found in mosquito pools in both areas, the first confirmed detections of the season. State Epidemiologist Dr. Joshua Clayton says summer activities and rural living raise the risk. Ways people can protect themselves are to use bug spray, wear long sleeves, and avoid being outside from dusk to dawn. More information is available on the state’s Department of Health website.
