(Deuel County, SD) — Cleanup is underway in northeastern South Dakota after powerful storms and close tornado calls shook the region Saturday night. Towns like Clear Lake, Gary, and nearby Canby, Minnesota, were all in the storm’s path but managed to avoid direct hits from multiple tornadoes. Still, heavy rain, hail, flash flooding, and wind left behind damage. In Gary, nearly a hundred people took shelter at Buffalo Ridge Resort, including families, pets, and the elderly. Another tornado also touched down near Kadoka. Two homes near Highway 22 were hit — one was destroyed, injuring a man inside. A search is underway for his missing dog. Another nearby home was empty when the storm struck, but the damage is extensive. Despite the destruction, officials report no fatalities.
