(Pierre, SD) — A South Dakota lawmaker sparks backlash with a controversial July 4th post, and Democrats are now demanding a public apology. Republican Representative Logan Manhart is under fire after posting a photo over the weekend with the caption, “It’s white boy summer and the boys are back in charge,” along with the hashtag “MAGA.” The post has since been deleted, and so has Manhart’s entire Instagram account. In a letter to House leadership, five Democratic lawmakers said the comment was harmful, divisive, and not something to brush off as a joke. On Monday, he responded on Facebook, calling the outrage political. He accused Democratic lawmakers of using the post to boost their own platforms and said critics are unfairly labeling him as racist, sexist, and anti-Semitic. Manhart represents District One, which includes Aberdeen and Sisseton.
