(Clark, SD) — A South Dakota man now faces murder charges after authorities say he beheaded his mother in their front yard. Attorney General Marty Jackley says 36-year-old Bowen Fladland is charged with both first and second degree murder in the death of his mother, Marlene, at their home in Clark. Jackley confirms this was a beheading case. Investigators are still gathering evidence, and an autopsy is planned. Fladland has a violent history. In 2023, he was convicted of assaulting his mother but got a suspended prison sentence. Now, prosecutors say his pattern of violence has escalated to murder.
