(Bismarck, ND) — Blackouts throughout North Dakota could increase in the future. The Department of Energy’s latest report shows that an increase in data centers and utility consumption poses a threat to two key electric grids in the state. Customers on the Southwest Power Pool and Midcontinent Independent System Operator grids could experience more annual outage hours starting in 2030. Officials say the prediction comes after more plant closures are scheduled in North Dakota.
