(Washington, DC) — Federal school funding promised for South Dakota districts is still stuck in Washington, D.C., and local superintendents are expressing their concerns. Despite being approved in the federal budget, around six-billion dollars in education funding hasn’t been released due to a dispute between the Office of Management and Budget and the U.S. Department of Education. Superintendents in Yankton, Watertown, and Aberdeen say the delay threatens vital programs like reading support, after-school care, and teacher funding for low-income students. They’ve taken their concerns to D.C., meeting with South Dakota’s congressional delegation, and now they’re urging the public to speak up too.
